Rinjani National Park Insurance Policy

At Rinjani Basecamp, your safety on the mountain is our ultimate priority. Climbing a 3,726-meter active volcano requires proper preparation.

Here is everything you need to know about your coverage before the climb.

1. The National Park Insurance Options

To successfully register for your e-Rinjani permit, valid insurance coverage is legally required. The national park provides two levels of protection:

  • Standard Protection (IDR 10,000): This basic coverage is automatically included in your national park entrance ticket. It strictly covers standard medical expenses and limited ground rescue. It does not cover helicopter evacuations.

  • Premium Protection (IDR 290,000 / ~ $18 USD): This upgraded tier was introduced to handle critical, high-altitude emergencies where ground rescue is impossible. Crucially, it provides the necessary funding for emergency helicopter rescues.

2. What is Included in the Premium Upgrade?

What is Included in the Premium Upgrade?

3. Do You Need to Purchase the Premium Upgrade?

Your obligation to purchase the IDR 290,000 Premium tier depends on your existing personal travel insurance:

  • You DO NOT need it if: You possess comprehensive personal travel insurance that explicitly covers both high-altitude trekking (up to 4,000m) and helicopter medical evacuation. You are eligible for the included Tier 1 Basic Insurance.

  • You MUST purchase it if: Your standard holiday insurance excludes activities above 2,500 meters or lacks high-altitude/helicopter rescue coverage. TNGR mandates the Premium upgrade to prevent you from being exposed on the mountain.
